At Wishing Well Play Therapy and Social Work, I believe every person has the capacity to live a meaningful, fulfilling, and balanced life. When individuals experience adversity, their emotional wellbeing can be impacted in ways that affect overall health and connection to others. My practice is grounded in the understanding that mental and emotional health are fundamental to holistic wellbeing, and that therapy can be a powerful pathway toward restoration and growth. By building positive, trusting relationships and supporting individuals to recognise and connect with their unique strengths and interests, I am guided by the belief that healing and personal growth can profoundly shape a person’s journey.

I offer a comprehensive range of therapeutic services designed to support the unique needs, strengths, and circumstances of each individual and family I work with. These services include play therapy for children, individual therapy for adolescents and adults, as well as family and sibling therapy to strengthen relationships, improve communication, and foster connection within the home. I provide in home and after-hours support or offer a professional and inviting home-based therapy clinic in Tannum Sands.
In addition, I provide personalised parenting support that is tailored to your own values, approach, and family dynamics, grounded in the understanding that you know your child best. This collaborative approach aims to build confidence, enhance skills, and support positive, sustainable change within the family system.
My name is Amber and I am the founder of Wishing Well. I am an experienced mental health practitioner with specialised training and have over twenty years of experience working passionately with families, individuals, and children. I offer a professional and welcoming home-based clinic that is particularly comforting for young people who instantly feel at home. I also provide home visits for those seeking therapeutic care in the comfort of their own home or community setting. I am an Accredited Social Worker with additional training in Play Therapy and Counselling, with extensive experience working with children and young people. I have dedicated Wishing Well Play Therapy and Social Work to supporting people to overcome adversity and to thrive. My mission is to foster an adaptive nurturing environment for individuals to explore their unique needs. Everyone is different so my approach is to use a holistic and individualised intervention for each person. I aim to promote mental well-being through inclusive practises and personalised care and help people connect to their hopes and dreams.

Play therapy can assist with a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and social concerns, including anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, attachment difficulties, emotional regulation, and behavioural challenges. Play therapy is a vehicle that fosters children's communication in their most natural way, through play. Sessions may include collaboration with parents or caregivers to support positive change beyond the therapy setting. Over time, play therapy aims to strengthen emotional resilience, enhance communication and problem-solving skills, improve self-esteem, and promote healthier relationships and overall wellbeing.
Families and individuals can find it difficult to attend spaces outside the home, and sometimes people still find face to face a more suitable option than telehealth. Therefore, if it is more comfortable for them, I can provide in home therapy. Time restrictions, work commitments, family dynamics or personal reasons can be a barrier to attending therapeutic support. I am a strong advocate for ensuring everyone can access support, and for this reason I offer after hours appointments including some weekend spaces, to ensure everyone has access to therapeutic support that is comfortable for them. Supporting young people needs to be fun and engaging for the young person, but also effective. Effective individual counselling services for young people can be challenging to locate, are often short term, and inconsistent. I specialise in supporting teens with a variety of experiences, including ASD, ADHD, teenage pregnancy, parenting teens, healthy relationships, career planning, family separation, and overall wellbeing and emotional health. I provide a fun and engaging space for young people to feel heard and make change possible.
Individual counselling services provide a supportive and confidential space to help you navigate personal challenges and work toward meaningful goals. Experiences such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, and addiction can significantly affect overall wellbeing and daily functioning. In a non-judgmental and compassionate environment, you are encouraged to explore your thoughts and emotions, gain insight into patterns of behaviour, and develop practical strategies for positive and lasting change. This process supports a journey toward improved resilience, clarity, and long-term personal growth.
Walk and talk therapy offers an alternative to traditional sessions by combining therapeutic conversation with gentle movement in a natural outdoor environment. Many people find that being outdoors in a calm and natural setting can help them feel more relaxed and open, making it easier to explore personal challenges and reflect on experiences. Walking therapy can support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and promote a sense of wellbeing. The rhythm of walking and the calming influence of nature often encourage deeper reflection, helping people gain clarity, perspective, and confidence as they work towards positive change. Location is Canoe Point parklands.
Families are facing more challenges now than ever before. This places families under a significant amount of stress. Change in dynamics, family separation, relocation, financial stress, isolation, and sibling conflict, place families under significant pressure. Using a safe space to communicate and develop new strategies and patterns of behaviour, helps families navigate adversity and overcome challenges.
Carers who offer a safe and nurturing home to children and young people can become burnt out without the right support and understanding. Grandparents are increasingly providing care for their grandchildren in unexpected ways, and therapeutic carer support beyond practical support is limited. A trauma informed, nonjudgmental and useful interpersonal approach that combines therapeutic support with parenting/carer strategies and advice.
Pregnancy and the transition to parenthood can bring significant emotional, psychological, and relational changes. Perinatal, pregnancy and reproductive decision support, provides a safe and compassionate space for individuals to explore the wide range of experiences that can arise during pregnancy, the postnatal period, and early parenting.
Support may include navigating pregnancy-related anxiety, adjusting to parenthood, relationship changes, birth preparation, processing previous birth experiences, pregnancy loss, and postnatal emotional wellbeing.
Therapy provides respectful and non-judgmental support for people navigating all pregnancy experiences.
